If your back-to-school isn’t picture-perfect…

The September back to school sharing has begun. New backpacks, smiling kids holding signs, smooth transitions, zero tears, celebrating success.

But that’s not everyone’s story. It certainly wasn’t mine. And if it’s not yours, you are not alone.

For those of us with neurodivergent kids, non-conforming kids, kids who struggle with transition, or families who just do things differently, the “Facebook version” of back to school can be tough.

What I’ve learned over the years is this: the less pressure we put on ourselves to make it look perfect, the easier it actually got. We didn’t do back to school shopping. We didn’t take the photos. We just eased into it—messy, imperfect, but in a way that we figured out worked for us.

So if your September doesn’t look like the glossy version, that doesn’t mean you’re doing it wrong. It means you’re doing it your way. And there’s real beauty in that.  For you and your family.

This fall, I invite you to unsubscribe from the story of what it’s “supposed” to look like—and live into what it really is.
